Jessica Lauren is the Founder and CEO of The Miss Abilities Organization, the reigning Ms. Elite Fresh Face Universal 2021 and a Dove Self Esteem Ambassador!
What do you do and why do you do it?
Jessica is a 300 hour certified yoga instructor, certified henna artist, published illustrator, office manager for a painting company, and professional artist with works on display in VA, WV, and MD. Jessica is the founder of Miss Abilities Organization, a program that creates accessible pageants and community involvement opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Everything she does, she does with an altruistic heart in the hopes of making the world a better place!
How does what you do benefit others?
Jessica’s platform is The Dove Self Esteem Project where she teaches workshops to help young people overcome body image issues and fulfill their potential by building positive body confidence and self-esteem. By working with young people, as well as their teachers, mentors and parents, she’s able to help undo the damage social media, photoshop and advertising tricks have had on young people’s self esteem.
Describe your career journey and how it led you to where you are now.
Jessica’s career path has not been a straight and narrow path, but she wouldn’t have it any other way. She has had the opportunity to try many different careers and educational paths which have helped give her insight to experiences that others face. This has helped her to be a more considerate and loving person in all that she does.
Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
Five years from now, Jessica sees herself happily remarried with a possible Mrs. pageant title! She also plans to become both a published author AND illustrator as well as to have her artwork on display in more states across the US.
Who is your favorite superhero and why? Do you relate to them?
One of Jessica’s biggest hero’s is Maya Angelou. As someone who is also a sexual assault survivor, she has always been inspired by Angelou’s ability to turn her trauma into an art form through poetry and stories that helped others heal. It’s Jessica’s wish to be able to do the same through her drawings and paintings.
If you could have one superpower to help you further your purpose, what would it be and why? How would you use it?
A superpower Jessica would love to have to help further her purpose would be the ability to create a calming aura that expands out to those around her. This aura would help others feel a sense of calm, feel loved, and know that it’s safe for them to be themselves around her.
